General:
Perennial herb from slender, horizontal rhizomes; stems erect, 10-25 cm tall; plants abundantly hairy, glandular-hairy above.
Leaves:
Basal leaves kidney-shaped, 3-5 cm wide, wider than long, palmately slightly-lobed, with single- or double-toothed margins, long-stalked; stem leaves similar, usually 2 or 3, shorter-stalked; stipules large, membranous, brownish.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a 10- to 35-flowered, terminal raceme; bracts small, fringed, brownish; petals white, the short claw about equal to the 3- to 7-lobed blade; calyces greenish-yellow, cup-shaped, joined to ovary only at the base, the free hypanthium tubular, 3-4 mm long, lined with a thin glandular disk, calyx lobes 4, triangular-egg-shaped, erect to sometimes spreading; stamens 5, opposite to calyx lobes.
Fruits:
Capsules, egg-shaped, 4-5 mm long, the beaks about 0.5 mm long; seeds dark brown, about 0.6 mm long.
